Sportsmanship & Bullying
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” (MK 12:30).
St. William of York Catholic School draws its inspiration for true sportsmanship and genuine Christian competiveness from Christ’s Gospel mandate to love God with our whole being, including our STRENGTH.
Undue roughness and bullying are distorted uses of the gift of bodily (or mental) strength, whereas good Christian sportsmanship is the practical antidote.
All school coaches are required to demonstrate understanding of and compliance with our school’s zero tolerance policy on bullying and to report any incidents (or suspicion) of bullying to the school administration within twenty four hours.
While we take pride in our budding school athletes and cheer them on to Panther victory, whether on the court or on the playing field, we demand that they do so with the graciousness and courtesy worthy of a Christian athlete.
